We share practices for promoting cross-gender dialogue and healthy masculinity. Implications of a trauma-informed approach will also be addressed.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Participants are able to discuss the impact of psychological trauma and masculinity on boys and men.

This interactive workshop provides an overview of key outcomes that differ for boys in the U.S. based on race.  We will systematically and anecdotally explore some of the structures that create these different trajectories.  We will also discuss ways to support boys of color in overcoming barriers designed to prevent them from growing into healthy men.

Learning Outcomes:

  2. Participants will be able to examine policies and practices that impact boys of color
  3. Participants will be able to apply insights to the work of supporting boys of color as they navigate the conundrum of racial oppression and gender privilege

Using experiential activities, we explore gender identity and expression, including trans and cis gender, as well as gender fluidity. This workshop will also explore the benefits of  supporting and expanding gender awareness - in light of the limitations of traditional, rigid gender norms - in working with boys, families and communities.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Participants will be able to examine the concepts of gender identity and expression.
  2. Participants will be able to discuss the benefits of affirming and supporting gender diversity.
